Covid-19: A pandemic the world suffers

Covid-19, the pandemic disease that started in China during Nov-Dec, 2019 has eventually got into its fold the entire world, killing lacs of people world over, including over 20000 so far in India. The pandemic is now well over 6 months old. But the would community is still struggling to decipher what exactly the disease is, how it spreads and how to control it and treat it. Scientists across the world are working day in and day out to work out a vaccine for the disease, but the wait appears unending. Though, the race for same continues.

More than a lac people have died of Covid-19 so far in USA itself, whereas China, where this all started, has seen around 4500 deaths so far. The Chinese virus, that's how they call it, has taken the entire world into a complete spin. The world has witnessed the kind of socio-economic problems along with the medical problems in last few months, that we could never think of. Along with the scare of the pandemic came the lock-downs, that resulted into widespread job-losses, countrywide economic plunge/ recession, etc. Such things have happened across the world, but it has impacted the countries like India the most. The lower most strata of the society, the people living below the poverty line,  the industrial and construction workers across the country were the hardest hit due to the complete break down of all sorts of construction, industrial and other activities.

A large spectrum of the migrant workers who were earning a living in big cities started leaving for their homes on their own, majority of them on foot, along with their family. Such heart rendering scenes continued for more than a month on the highways all across the country that exposed the deep faultlines in the otherwise  formidable social and economic equilibrium apparently existing in our big cities. Govts tried to do their bit in helping the hapless citizens, but not to much avail, possibly due to the sheer volume of the people on the highways mostly braving on foot across the length and breadth of the country. The humanity cried and wept, but could not do much to soothe the agony of these workers, till they somehow managed to get back to their homes. By then , some already had walked barefoot for 1000 kms, some for 2000 kms or even more. Towards the end of the lockdown, Govt came to help of these hapless brothers by way of running some special trains and this did provide a lot of relief to the people stranded across the country, without any job or any other thing in sight to support them left in the big cities.

The pandemic is still on in India and elsewhere. In India, more than 6.5 lac people have so far been infected with this disease, with more than 20000 already dead. But the silver lining is that around 4.0 lac people have so far recovered also. On daily basis, over 20000 people are getting infected, while around 15000 people are getting recovered also. Governments across the country appear to be doing a good job in containing the disease and giving relief to the general public during the last few months, during the lockdown, and also during the un-lockdown that followed . But people at large need to adapt to the new normal as essentially required to keep the disease at bay, while slowly returning to their jobs and livelihood activities. The public at large has come now to understand the precautions that everyone needs to take, like putting up with masks on all the while, as well as maintaining social  distancing while at work or at other public places, observing good healthy respiratory ethics, maintaining a good balanced diet so as to keep up your immunity intact, etc, etc.

Hope and wish, the world and humanity finds soon a solution to this pandemic, by way of working out out some vaccine for the disease or some foolproof treatment. Sooner it happens, the better. Till then, we all need to take good care of ourselves, our families and our societies. Pl keep safe! Good luck and best wishes to all!!
